"Gods and Monsters" Show at The Candy Factory

This was my piece, I wasn't sure at first about entering it as I thought it wouldn't fit in. I'm now glad that I did as it did fit perfectly with the other works.

This is the first time I've had a piece of my art in a showing in over 10 years. I,m glad that I was able to overcome my apprehensions and entered the show. I really want to get working on more, join more groups and keep moving forward with my art. While at the show I also got to say hello to and meet some more of my friends from Twitter. This was overall a positive experience for me!!

My daughter Jessica and I have been working on painting items to prepare for the Lititz craft fair next year. Here are two of the vintage silver spoons that I painted this week. I will be listing them for sale on my Etsy shop along with the ones that Jessica also painted.

New Jewelry Designs - Sneak Peek

Cleaning out my studio space I discovered that I had these vintage typewriter keys. They them from an old typewriter that was thrown in the trash. I decided to take them and design pieces of jewelry. I took pages from a vintage dictionary and ran them through the paper shredder to make strips. Doing this saved me a lot of cutting and made the exact size and width I was looking for. It also gave the paper strips that ragged edge I was looking for. I am not yet revealing the design until I have a few more made, keep an eye out later this week!!

Crocheted Hand Warmers

I took instructions from 3 different projects and combined them to make these fun crocheted hand warmers. So far I am on my 3rd pair. They are quick to make
and I can complete them while watching TV in about two evenings. Although the colder weather is passing, I think that I may just offer them for sale on my Etsy
shop. The violet pair above also have the ruffled edge at the wrist like the sunny yellow pair, I added it after the photo was taken.

I sat down and did four new pieces today. For this ATC I used the packing tape transfer technique on the image. I made fingerprints on the tape first to make the image look crackled (* a little trick that I figured out by accident) and put this over a printed digital collage. I added the word stickers, paper flower and button to complete.

Traveler Tag

I stamped the tag using various unmounted stamps that I had (had forgotten about is more like it!!) added the stamped image, butterfly wings and crown cut from scrapbook paper. Isn't it nice when you start digging through your supplies and end up making some great ART from stuff you forgot about? It is like shopping without ever leaving your home!! (C'MON...I know you ALL do this!!) PLEASE...tell me it is NOT just me!!

"Fly Me To The Moon"

Another ATC I made this morning using odd images that I had in my image box. The little girl is from Inkastamps.com, the moon is from The Mailbox Muse bi-monthly club and the crowns were cut from a sheet of scrapbook paper. The background paper was leftover from a sheet of Halloween scrapbook paper. I titled this one "Fly me to the moon".

The TGIF theme for this week at AlteredDesigns Yahoo group is "Dictionary Page". Here is my creation. I am not sure what company the stamped designs are from as I received them in a stamped image swap some time ago.

Altered Spoon

I had signed up to do an altered spoon for a swap at AlteredDesigns Yahoo group and had no idea what to do with an ordinary vintage spoon. As I was looking through my supplies, everything that I needed to do an Alice in Wonderland theme jumped out at me. The spoon that I used is a large vintage silver tablespoon marked Hershey Hotel on the back of the handle (I didn't swipe it I swear!!). I left the spoon in its tarnished condition and added a tiny glass bottle, a clock button, tea stained tags, a tiny brass cake charm, a tiny brass, an image of Alice from the printed from original book and vintage rhinestones. Even my husband LIKES this one!! He says my art is getting better all the time, such a sweetie!!

Clay Face Pins

I started making these clay face pins using polymer clay, vintage rhinestones and watch parts. I thought this scan of them actually turned out really cool. (I plan on taking actual photos of these. When I do I will post them so you can actually see the details.) AND I finally figured out how to watermark my photos WOOHOO!! Just another step in my blogging adventures! Can't wait to learn Photoshop one of these days, though that would mean purchasing a new computer.......HINT, HINT (May 30th is fast approaching)...I LOVE you honey!!
P.S. and did I mention that I still have my eye on that Canon camera...?

I made this 4 x 4 inch collage painting this week. I used a 4 x 4 wrapped canvas and applied torn patterned papers in a random fashion using Mod Podge. I then applied Gesso using a dry brush method. After that dried I used Fluid Chalk Inks and applied random color. Over the color I then added the Gesso circles, swirls and lines. I drew in the lamb, flowers, birds, clouds and hot air balloon using a Gelly Roll pen in white. Next I laid down the base colors for the face, shirt and hair adding detail using Sharpie markers. I touched up a few places with the ink again and I still need to apply one last clear coat over the top. I am not completely happy that I used black on this but it is the basic idea of what I wanted to do. It is a learning process for me and I am sure that the next one I do will be even better.

I have finally finished a layout in my journal!! I have been wanting to get this journal going for sometime now. My plan was to follow along over at Jennifer Roger-Daniels blog Atistically Designed Diversions with her weekly journal prompts. I am not sure what the prompt even was for this but here it is anyway!! Maybe I will pay attention and follow more closely now, I am such a bad student!!

I've spent quite a few hours last night and this morning doing alot of blog surfing. LOTS of great art out there. I was sitting here looking at Maddie as she was playing on the floor and thought I should try to sketch her face. Now, I have NOT sketched anything for probably YEARS!! But this is what came from the pen in my hand. I only wish I had done this in my BLANK art journal!! Oh well, I guess I will have to try sketching on a more regular basis!!

These are the pages I did for Peggy's book in the Mixed Media Madams group. Her book theme is "What you see when you close your eyes" The top page I did with an old time movie theme but put on the Nickelodeon kids shows on there since that is what is on my TV most of the time. The bottom pages represents being a kid again!! I had fun putting these together this week.

Recycled Art

I used a vintage silver fork (this one is dated 1847) and using heavy duty pliers bent the tines to form this ATC holder. I had recovered these forks from going to the scrap yard during metal collection. I have begun making several and they will be for sale in my Etsy shop later this week.

Collage Painting

The Scan turned out a bit blurry on the bottom due to the real shells that are glued on to the bottom. I took a canvas and adhered torn music paper using Mod Podge and then did the painting part using regular acrylic paints. I got the sand effect on the bottom by first using gesso and then layering on the sandy colors. The real shells are ones that I picked up at the beach in South Carlolina when we were there for Brittany's boot camp graduation in November. Another completed piece by me ~ YEAH!!

I stamped the pear stamp on more pages from the 1969 Cookbook that I used for the first layer. I used Distress Ink in tea dye and then cut around the image. I am just not sure if this is looking too cluttered or if it is supposed to look that way. Maybe when I shade around the images and add embellishments that will change the look. On to that part...

For step 4 I colored in the circles using the fluid chalk inks and a paint brush. I made some more solid than the others and left some of the white show through on the rest.

For step 5 I stamped on the pear stamp using a violet fluid chalk ink, first inking only a small part of the stamp and then the whole stamp. I like how it didn't stamp solidly in some places. Next I stamped a different pear stamp and a word stamp using gesso. I like how this step turned out but, oh NO...I didn't stop there. I added more stamping which I will post as soon as I take more pics. AND if Blogger will cooperate with me better this time. These pics took FOREVER to upload..Grrrr....

The 3rd step was to brush on gesso and acrylic paint. I did this using a pastry brush. The stiff bristles gave more texture to the surface. I also used this brush for the acrylic paint in lemon yellow.

In the 4Th step I took a lid from a canning jar and a spice lid to make the large and medium sized circles using gesso. I applied it rather thick in order to add yet more texture. I then thought that it needed a few more circles so I took the lid off of a steak sauce bottle that was in my recycle box. Can you tell I was doing these steps in my kitchen? Sounds like I am putting together a recipe, which actually fits right in to my collage since I used vintage recipe book pages to start with. See the theme here? Next I took an old credit card and made the random lines using gesso. Let this dry awhile then onto the next steps.

The second step was to add accent color using Color Box Fluid Chalk Ink. I used warm violet on the outer edges and french blue on the inside. I will move on to step 3 tomorrow.

This is the first time I have been able to participate in one of the workshop over at TheLatestTrendsInMixedMedia Yahoo group. The first step was to add torn paper to the canvas using Mod Podge. My canvas size here is 12 x 12. I used pages from a vintage cookbook for my papers. After it was dry it was on to step 2 above.
